Abstract

The article explores the role of a forensic expert in identifying signs of victimization resulting from deception, which is one of the key mechanisms for violating interpersonal and legal trust. Victimization through deception encompasses a wide range of situations – from fraud to psychological abuse – where the victim suffers not only material losses but also deep emotional harm. In this context, the forensic expert, particularly a psychologist or criminalist, acts not only as a technical specialist but also as an interpreter of behavioral and psycho-emotional responses of the affected individual. The article analyzes theoretical approaches to understanding trust, deception, and victimization, as well as practical methods used in forensic practice to detect signs of psychological trauma. Special attention is given to the interdisciplinary approach that integrates knowledge from psychology, law, criminalistics, and victimology. Examples of expert methodologies are provided, which help reveal hidden signs of deception, assess the emotional impact on the victim, and deliver substantiated conclusions for judicial proceedings. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the systematization of victimization criteria through deception and the justification of the forensic expert’s role as a key actor in protecting victims’ rights. The practical relevance of the research is reflected in the applicability of the proposed approaches in forensic psychological and criminalistic examinations, as well as in the training of professionals in law and forensic science.
